Randal E Connelly graduated from Law School at the University of South Dakota in 1974, and served in/was Director of the Pennington County Public Defender’s Office from 1974 to 1979. Since going into private practice, he has done predominately Criminal Defense for 40 years, with hundreds of jury trials in both State and Federal courts. These trials include all manner of state and federal drug cases, State and Federal Murder cases, as well as countless DUIs, and cases involving murder, manslaughter, assaults, rape, child porn and kidnaping. He has handled dozens of murder cases resulting in multiple acquittals on murder, manslaughter, kidnaping, rape and Aggravated Assault charges. He has handled both at the trial level and at the appellate level numerous death penalty cases.

Some of his career highlights include:
2009-2010 Represented a defendant accused of aiding and abetting the murder of Annie Mae Aquash.
2003-2004 Jury trial on Kidnaping and Rape receiving an acquittal on all counts.
Nation Fast Food/Restaurant “a hoax most cruel” string of cases where Managers of the restaurants were contacted by a caller imposing as a detective. Good Morning America conducted a live interview on national television with Mr. Connelly and his client following the acquittal after a week-long trial.
1993 Successfully defended one of three principal owners of Black Hills Institute on a 153 Count Federal Indictment involving “Sue” The largest T Rex ever discovered along with taking other fossils. This is said to be South Dakota’s longest criminal trial, lasting six to eight weeks.
1989 he successfully defended a felony drug possession of Marijuana case involving 1,152 pounds of Marijuana. The Jury acquitted after a four day jury trial.
1983 he successfully defended a murder and attempted murder charges after a week-long jury trial on the defense of insanity (one of the last successful insanity defenses at jury trial in the State of South Dakota).
